When you think about commuting, you don’t automatically think about the call of the Red-wing Blackbird, Canada Geese floating across scenic lagoons or the sounds of reed grasses swaying in the breeze. Fortunately for me, this is what I encounter when I bike to work. When I make the choice to bike to work, my day automatically starts off on the right foot. Yes, it does take a little extra time and planning, but I am always glad that I made that choice–as long as the wind is at my back!
Do you live within biking distance of your work? Have you ever considered riding your bike to work? All across Wisconsin people are gearing up for National Bike to Work Week which runs from May 14-18. Check out the link below from the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin for events in Milwaukee during National Bike to Work Week. If you have ever thought you wanted to give biking to work a try, now is the perfect time. The Milwaukee Bicycle Federation will be at our Green Festival on May 11th to answer any questions you might have regarding routes and events.
Additionally, we just learned that May 9th is the first ever National Bike to School Day. Although it is rather short notice, DMA has registered as a participant in this event. We just couldn’t pass up a day that celebrates and promotes the many benefits of biking. On Wednesday, May 9th, grab the kids, grab the bikes, and head to school. If you don’t live within walking distance or your children are not quite ready for bikes, you could park at Humboldt Park and walk or bike from there. At 8:20, we will have juice and a nutritious snack available for the children participating in the event. Look for a flyer this week for further details. We are hoping Bike to School Day will become an annual event at DMA. If you have any questions regarding this event, please contact Sara Vondrachek at email@example.com
